Key takeaways
- Appy Pie is free to try: converting, previewing and testing cost nothing, and the suite covers apps, websites and AI building for non-technical users.
- Publishing needs a paid per-app plan. Basic and Gold are Android-only, iOS needs Platinum, and cancelling locks the app, according to Appy Pie's pricing FAQ (as of October 2026).
- Template apps face two review questions: who submits (Guideline 4.2.6) and whether the app looks like many others (4.3). Appy Pie itself helped shape today's 4.2.6 in 2017.
- WebViewGold, made by our team, is a one-time license for Xcode and Android Studio projects you own – there is no plan that can lock your app.
Our recommended solution
Looking for an Appy Pie alternative? Meet WebViewGold
WebViewGold turns your website or web app into native iOS and Android projects for a one-time price – with push notifications, a native offline screen, deep links, a QR scanner, in-app purchases and more. You own the projects and publish in your own developer accounts. Built by our own team.
Appy Pie alternative: who should switch – and who shouldn't
Look for an Appy Pie alternative if you need an iPhone app without a top-tier plan, want code you can modify or don't want the app to stop working when a subscription ends. Stay if you value a free start and one dashboard for apps, websites and AI building. For owners who want the project itself, WebViewGold is the most direct route.
Appy Pie LLP is based in Noida, India, and was founded in 2016 by Abhinav Girdhar. It has grown into a large no-code suite with an app builder, a website builder and an AI "vibe coding" builder; a prompt-based AI app builder entered open beta in 2026. Its Website to App Converter uses AI to read your site and generate Android and iOS apps that run your content in a native WebView shell.
You get signed APK, AAB and IPA files, and apps "Go Live Under your Developer Account", as the pricing page puts it – a convenient package for non-technical small businesses that want everything in one place.
How do Appy Pie's plans shape the decision?
As of October 2026, Appy Pie's pricing page and website-to-app page describe this model:
- Free until you publish. Converting, previewing and testing are free; publishing needs a paid plan.
- One subscription per app. Plans are billed monthly or yearly, and every app needs its own plan. Monthly download and push quotas apply, with overage fees.
- iOS sits at the top. The Basic and Gold plans support Android only; an iPhone app needs Platinum.
- Extras cost extra. Removing Appy Pie branding (white label) requires an add-on package. The first submission is supported for free; later submissions are charged.
- The app depends on the plan. Asked whether an app works after cancelling, the pricing FAQ answers: "No, once you have cancelled your subscription, your app would be locked."
Appy Pie is open about the friction: its website-to-app page quotes two 2025 Capterra reviews complaining about paying to keep apps functional or to publish at all. For one Android app with modest traffic, the model may suit you; for several apps, an iOS version and years of updates, add up the subscriptions first.

Appy Pie vs WebViewGold vs AppMySite vs a PWA over an app's life
This table follows an app from building to the day you stop paying (vendor details as of October 2026).
| Stage | Appy Pie | WebViewGold | AppMySite | PWA (no store) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | No-code suite with an AI website-to-app converter (native WebView shell) | Xcode (Swift) and Android Studio projects; optional Cloud Builder | No-code app builder for websites, WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify | Your website, installable from the browser |
| Platforms | Android on Basic and Gold; iOS on Platinum | iOS and Android | Android, iOS, PWA; Starter is Android-only | Any modern browser; iOS via Add to Home Screen |
| Pricing model | Free to build and test; per-app monthly or yearly subscription to publish; quotas; white label as add-on | One-time Regular or Extended license per app (Extended for in-app purchases); free updates | Free plan; monthly, yearly or lifetime plans per app | No license; only your hosting |
| Publishing | Under your developer account; first submission supported, later ones charged | You, in your own accounts, as often as you like | Your own accounts; paid publishing add-on | No store listing or review |
| Native features | Push, offline caching, Face ID, Touch ID and fingerprint login, in-app payments, share sheet, analytics, AdMob | Push (OneSignal, Firebase, Pushwoosh), offline fallback, local HTML, biometrics, scanners, NFC, in-app purchases, share dialog, AdMob | Unlimited push, in-app chat, IAP, AdMob, Google and Apple sign-in, offline mode | Web push for Home Screen web apps since iOS 16.4; limited device access |
| Code you receive | Signed APK, AAB and IPA; no Swift or Kotlin source to modify | Full projects you own | Cloud builds; no source code; keystore not shared | Your own website |
| Mac for iOS | Not clearly stated | Yes for Xcode; no with the Cloud Builder | No on Premium (App Store Connect API key) | Not needed |
| After you stop paying | App is locked (pricing FAQ) | No subscription to stop | Preview plan with AppMySite branding and reduced functionality until you pay again | Nothing to cancel |
AppMySite is the closest no-code peer; our AppMySite alternative article compares it in detail. A PWA costs nothing extra but gives up App Store discovery and much of the native side.
Appy Pie and Guideline 4.2.6: the 2017 story and today's review risks
Few builders are as closely tied to an App Store rule as Appy Pie. In June 2017, Apple's new Guideline 4.2.6 rejected apps created from templates outright. SD Times reported in August 2017 that "Neo Gourmet", an app built on Appy Pie, had been rejected twice under it. Appy Pie lobbied against the rule – Congressman Ted Lieu wrote to Apple – and in December 2017 Apple revised it (TechCrunch; Appy Pie's press release welcomed the change). The current version starts:
Apps created from a commercialized template or app generation service will be rejected unless they are submitted directly by the provider of the app’s content.
Templates are allowed if the business behind the content submits the app from its own account – which Appy Pie's publish-under-your-account model does. Three risks remain for any template or generator app:
- Who submits. If an agency or freelancer publishes your app from their account, 4.2.6 applies again – see Guideline 4.2.6 for WebView apps.
- Looking like everyone else. Apps from the same generator can share navigation patterns, onboarding and stock imagery. Guideline 4.3 targets apps that are "indistinguishable from what's already widely available" – our 4.3 article for WebView apps shows how to stand apart.
- Thin wrappers. A WebView shell still has to offer more than your website does in Safari (Guideline 4.2).
Google Play has its own versions: its spam policy rejects "apps that merely provide the same experience as other apps already on Google Play", and its limited-functionality rule catches static apps. Template-like store listings make both worse – see our metadata policy guide. Appy Pie's pricing FAQ states plainly that it can't promise approval by either store – and no tool can.
Where Appy Pie is the better fit
- You want to try before paying. Converting, previewing and testing your app cost nothing, so you see the result before any decision.
- You want one place for everything. App builder, website builder and AI builder sit in one account – handy if you have no website yet or want to start from a prompt.
- You don't want to touch configuration. The AI reads your site and generates the app, and you adjust the result without code.
- You need an Android app on a budget. If one Android app with modest downloads is the goal, the entry plans may cover it.
- Compliance paperwork matters. For enterprise buyers, Appy Pie says it runs a compliance program with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 (vendor claims).
If those points describe you, an alternative may cost you more effort than it saves.
Our recommended alternative
WebViewGold: native iOS and Android apps from your website
Instead of building native features from scratch, start from WebViewGold. You get ready-made Xcode and Android Studio projects for your website, with native modules you switch on in the configuration:
- Push notificationsOneSignal or Firebase, for real, personal events
- Native offline screenNo browser error pages when the connection drops
- Native splash screenApp-like start instead of a loading web page
- Deep linksLinks open the right screen inside the app
- QR & barcode scannerDevice features the website alone can't offer
- In-app purchasesNative purchase flows where the store requires them
No tool guarantees an approval: Apple still judges what your app offers. Use the native features in your main user journey – our App Specialists review your WebViewGold app before it goes to the App Store.
Where WebViewGold is the stronger Appy Pie alternative
WebViewGold is the website-to-app solution made by our own team, so we're not neutral here – but the differences are concrete. You get a ready-made Xcode project in Swift and an Android Studio project, point them at your URL (on iOS in Config.swift) and switch on native modules.
- You own what you pay for. A one-time license per app, Regular or Extended (Extended for in-app purchases), with free updates. No cancelled plan can lock the app, because there is no plan.
- iOS isn't a premium tier. The Xcode project is a core part of WebViewGold, not an upgrade.
- No quotas from us. WebViewGold doesn't meter downloads; push volume depends only on the provider you connect.
- Your design, not a generated one. The app shows your website as you designed it – it looks like your product rather than a template, which helps with 4.3.
- The native features Appy Pie users rely on. Push, an offline fallback and local HTML bundling, Face ID and Touch ID, the native share dialog, StoreKit and Google Play Billing, AdMob and QR scanning, plus App Tracking Transparency support and a Sign in with Apple helper.
The honest catch: WebViewGold is not a drag-and-drop editor. If you don't want to open Xcode, the separately sold Cloud Builder works in the browser, and our team offers a done-for-you setup. No tool can promise an approval; WebViewGold gives reviewers a real native layer to look at.
From Appy Pie to WebViewGold: a migration plan that keeps your listing
Because Appy Pie publishes under your developer account, your listings are already yours. The order of steps protects your users:
- Don't cancel first. The pricing FAQ says the app is locked after cancelling, so ship the replacement while the plan is active.
- Check account access. Make sure you're Account Holder in App Store Connect and owner in Play Console, and note any access you granted for submission support.
- Record the identifiers. Bundle ID, package name, live version numbers and Android
versionCode– the new builds keep the identifiers and raise the versions. - Make your website app-ready. With WebViewGold, the app shows your site itself, so detect the app through its custom user agent, hide web-only headers, footers and app-download banners, and check every page on a phone.
- Rebuild the features you used. Push moves to OneSignal, Firebase or Pushwoosh, biometric login to Face ID and Touch ID, offline caching to the offline fallback, and digital in-app payments to StoreKit or Google Play Billing – physical goods keep your web checkout.
- Handle signing. iOS builds are signed with a distribution certificate from your own team, since the app record follows the bundle ID. On Android, an app published as an App Bundle uses Play App Signing, so Google holds the app signing key; if you don't have the upload key behind your Appy Pie builds, the account owner or an admin can request an upload key reset in Play Console.
- Test, then submit as updates via TestFlight and a Google Play internal test, with review notes listing each native feature.
- Cancel once both updates are live and most users have installed them.
How appsubmitter.io helps – with or without Appy Pie
appsubmitter.io is the AI-powered and human-powered submission service run by the same team as WebViewGold. For a switch, we set up signing, certificates, the Play upload key and a fastlane-based CI/CD pipeline in your own accounts, prepare listings with screenshot guidance, complete the App Privacy details and Data safety form, run an AI-powered pre-submission guideline check and handle communication with App Review and the Google Play team.
If you keep your Appy Pie app, we can still take over listings, privacy forms, submissions and rejection handling – always in your own developer accounts. Code changes aren't included; we discuss and quote them upfront, and Apple and Google make the final call. Book the service or describe your app in a free consultation call.
